Losing teeth can significantly affect your ability to bite and chew comfortably, straining adjacent teeth and leading to further issues. Dental implants offer a lasting solution by mimicking natural teeth in look, feel, and function. A surgically placed post fuses with the jawbone, supporting a secure restoration like a crown or bridge. This approach ensures durability, aesthetics, and long-term success. At Eastman Craighead Periodontics, our board-certified surgeons provide expert care, delivering top-quality implant solutions.
Modern dental implants have success rates exceeding 95% and have several benefits over traditional treatments such as dental bridges. With a bridge, your dentist shaves down teeth next to your missing tooth to create space for the restoration.
In addition to removing perfectly good tooth structure, shaving teeth down for a bridge may irritate the nerves of the teeth, leading to future root canals. With dental implants, the teeth next to the missing tooth are not touched. This eliminates unnecessary trauma to the adjacent teeth and the possible need for expensive and painful root canals.
At Eastman Craighead Periodontics, our periodontists take pride in offering a unique level of care by having Registered Nurses as part of our team within our periodontal office. With their expertise, our RNs play a crucial role in administering sedation and local anesthetic, ensuring your comfort and safety throughout procedures.
They also conduct thorough health history reviews, provide valuable assistance during surgeries, and offer attentive post-operative care right here in our periodontal office. For more complex outpatient procedures or those necessitating IV or general anesthesia, you can receive treatment at the state-of-the-art Manatee Surgical Center, further ensuring your comfort and well-being.
Your journey toward achieving a lifelong smile begins with a comprehensive consultation. During this initial appointment, we prioritize understanding your medical history, dental concerns, and smile aspirations. We encourage open communication to ensure we address your specific desires and expectations for treatment.
We craft a customized treatment plan tailored to your unique dental needs and smile preferences following a thorough examination, including diagnostic tests and assessments. With this personalized roadmap, we create your dream smile, guiding you toward optimal oral health and confidence for a lifetime.
Once your treatment plan is created, we’ll administer your choice of sedation, and our team will begin your dental implant surgery by placing four implants into predetermined spots in your jawbone. Once your implants are placed, we’ll attach an abutment to each implant and place your temporary restoration! This restoration will allow you to enjoy the benefits of your brand-new smile while your mouth heals.
Following your dental implant surgery, you may experience mild discomfort, swelling, and minor bruising around the implant site, which are normal parts of the healing process. Before you leave, we’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions to promote proper healing and reduce the risk of complications. Over the next 4-6 months, the dental implants will undergo osseointegration, fusing with your jawbone and providing a solid foundation for your final restoration.
Once this integration is complete, your implants will be capable of supporting your permanent prosthesis. With your new restoration in place, you can look forward to a life free from dietary restrictions and the self-consciousness associated with missing teeth. You’ll be able to smile confidently and enjoy the benefits of a complete smile for many years to come!
